The 07A version of the Tape is equivalent to Nakamichi DA09007A Test Tapes.
It can be used to calibrate Nakamichi decks equipped with Playback Head with narrow space (0.3 mm) between edges of the Left and Right channel laminated cores: 480, 481, 482Z, 582, 582Z, 600, 600II, 660ZX, 670ZX, 680ZX, 682ZX, 700, 700II, 700ZXE, 700ZXL, 1000II, 1000ZXL, ZX-3, ZX7, ZX9 and all other brands of cassette tape deck equipped with heads WITHOUT tape guides permanently attached to the head, and equipped with independently adjustable Tape Guides.

The 87B version of the Tape is equivalent to Nakamichi DA09087B Test Tapes.
It can be used to calibrate Nakamichi decks equipped with Playback Head with wide space (0.4 mm) between edges of the Left and Right channel laminated cores: CR Series (CR-3, CR-4, CR-7), BX-300, Dragon etc.

The 1 kHz narrow (0,3 or 0.4 mm width) track is recorded precisely between edges of the Left and Right channel laminated cores. It is recorded at the END of the tape starting at the last 5 minutes. From 00:00 to 25:00 the tape is blank, no signals recorded.
To perform Playback Head height adjustments, you need 3 different cassettes.
1). Equalize both channel output using a 400 Hz Level cassette (GLNAC-05A).
2). Adjust Playback Head Height Gear to obtain EQUAL MINIMUM reading of the Output Signal for both channels (no matter what output level is) using 1k Track Alignment tape (GLNAC-07A or -87B).
3). Adjust Playback Head azimuth for maximum output and minimum difference in phase between channels using 15 kHz AZIMUTH cassette (GLNAC-04A).
Repeat step 2) and step 3) a few times till no further adjustments are required.

The Cassette is recorded for the Playback Head Height calibration of Nakamichi cassette decks.This Cassette can be used to adjust Playback Head of cassette tape decks of all other brands equipped with adjustable Tape Guides NOT permanently attached to the Playback head.
The Tape is recorded OFF SHELL using the OTARI 0.15" (3.81 mm) Reel-to-Reel MX-5050BIII-1-P2/1 Production tape recorder and professional test equipment from NEUTRIK. This tape recorder, is equipped with the custom-made Focused-Field Narrow Track Instrumental Record Heads (0.3 mm for the 07A version of the tape and 0.4 mm for the 87B version of the tape) and has precisely machined Tape Guides. This provides extremely stable position of the single 1 kHz narrow track across the tape.
