Parker-Hale Limited of Birmingham has for many years been manufacturing sniping rifles. The company's best-known product is the 7.62-mm Parker-Hale Model 82, also known as the Parker-Hale 1200TX. The model 82 has been accepted for military and police service by several nations.
Model 82 uses a manual bolt action, allied to a heavy free-floating barrel; the barrel weighs 1.98 kg (4.365 lb) and is manufactured from chrome molybdenum steel. An integral four-round magazine is provided. The trigger mechanism is an entirely self-contained unit that can be adjusted as required.
The Model 82 was available in number of forms to suit any particular customer requirements. Thus an adjustable cheek pad may be provided if wanted, and the butt lengths can be altered by adding or taking away butt pads of various thicknesses.
The Australian army uses the Model 82 fitted with a Kahles Helia ZF 69 telescopic sight. The Canadian army uses a version of the Model 82/1200TX altered to meet local requirements; this service knows the Model 82 as the Rifle 7.62-mm C3. New Zealand also uses the Model 82.
